The issue is now resolved.
cPanel's upstream license servers are currently experiencing a widespread outage. This is affecting the ability to log in to the cPanel and WHM control panels on our web hosting servers. The issue is on cPanel's side and is affecting hosting providers worldwide, not only us.
Your websites and email are not affected. Hosted websites remain online and are serving normally, and email (sending, receiving, IMAP, POP, and webmail) continues to work as usual.
The only impact is that logging in to the cPanel control panel may show a license error. We are monitoring cPanel's progress, and control panel access will return to normal automatically once cPanel restores their license service. No action is required on your part.
Resolved: Rogers has completed the repair and the affected fibre path is back in service. Our inter-site link between the South Side and Downtown facilities returned to service this morning at approximately 9:15 AM MDT, and traffic has moved off the backup link and back onto the primary path. Both facilities remained online for the full duration of the Rogers repair and no InCentre customer services were affected at any point. We are closing this advisory.
Update: Rogers' fibre contractors have pulled in enough slack to begin repairs, and the cables are now being prepared for splicing. Rogers has still not provided an estimated time to restore. InCentre services remain unaffected. Rogers has scheduled their next update for 4:30 PM MDT, or sooner if there is a significant change.
This notice remains open while we monitor Rogers' repair. To be clear, InCentre services are not affected: both facilities are online and the inter-site backup link is carrying traffic normally. We are leaving this advisory in a monitoring state, rather than marking it resolved, until Rogers confirms their fibre is fully restored.
Update: Rogers has located the fault. The fibre was cut by construction activity inside a building near Jasper Avenue and 100 Street in downtown Edmonton, where 24 ducts were torn out and the cables inside removed. The damage is extensive and Rogers has confirmed that multiple carriers and utilities are affected. Rogers crews are on site working to re-pull the fibre between splice points and place a temporary fibre, with a second crew waiting on a 144-count cable to arrive. Rogers has not provided an estimated time to restore, and expects the repair to take some time.
Our network remains unaffected. Both our South Side and Downtown facilities are online and the backup link between them is carrying traffic normally. Customers may notice slower or failed connections when reaching services that are themselves hosted on the affected Rogers or Shaw network, but this is on the far end and not on our side. We will continue to post updates as Rogers progresses. Rogers has scheduled its next update for 2:00 PM MDT or sooner.
Rogers has reported a major fibre cut in downtown Edmonton and is actively working to restore it. This is not impacting InCentre customer services. Our network is multi-homed, both our South Side and Downtown facilities remain online, and the backup link between the two sites is carrying traffic normally. We are keeping this notice open and monitoring while Rogers completes their repair. Customers may notice slower or failed connections when reaching services that are themselves hosted on the affected Rogers or Shaw network, but this is on the far end and not on our side.
